CONDEMN THE MAOIST THREAT TO KILL THE LEADERS OF PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT AND OTHER REVOLUTIONARY ORGANIZATION

The people’s movements are developing and spreading in many areas of our country because of and against the anti-people and pro imperialist policies of the Indian ruling classes. The rulers are resorting to various types of fascist measures like ‘operation Green hunt’ to suppress them. The BJD Govt. in Orissa and the Congress government in AP are preparing themselves for attacks on the adivasis and other poor even in the tribal areas in the Andhra-Orissa border region. The Rythu Cooli Sangham (AP) strongly denounces these repressive moves of the rulers.

For several decades, the adivasis in the Andhra-Orissa are carrying on struggle for land, reasonable rates for the forest produces, education, medical care and employment. But the rulers continue to remain unmoved.

The alienation of land is growing every day in the tribal areas. The land of adivasis had gone into the occupation of others like, 500 acres in Parvathipuram area into the hands of Maxworth Company; 600 acres in Bandugoan block of Koraput district in to the hands of STM company and 100 acres into the hands of power plant. Thousands of acres of Adivasis’ Land had gone into the hands of rich in the name of palm oil gardens. Hundreds of acres of Adivasis’ land were taken by them on ‘lease’ in the name of lemon grass cultivation. The Adivasis are losing the lands and working days as the food crops are being replaced by the commercial crops .1/70 Act in AP and 2/56 Act in Orissa have banned the land rights to the non-adivasis in the tribal(scheduled) areas. Yet the rulers never implemented these Acts properly.

The Adivasis are not getting reasonable rates for the forest produce till now. The market forces are looting the tamarind, honey, brooms etc. collected by the adivasis at throw away prices. The rulers are paying a deaf ear to the demands of adivasis to set up the mini-cigarette factories and pay them a reasonable price for the tendu leaves collected and supplied by them.

For the last 18 years, the Rythu Cooli Sangham in AP and Chasi Muliya Adivasis Sangham in Orissa(CMAS) are mobilizing the people and building The adivasis movement on the above issues. In the recent period the people are moving in thousands into these movements in Andhra-Orissa border region. The BJD government is resorting to counter movements in the name of ‘peace committees’ to divide, divert and suppress the struggling people.

Nabin Patnaik is resorting to repression in order to turn the Koraput district into a centre of imperialist exploitation.

In Koraput district, the Chasi Muliya Adivasis Sangham is busy in building an Organized Movement on the problems of adivasis. Since the last one year, this movement got intensified and thousands of adivasis came into these struggles in waves. In Bandugoan Block they seized back hundreds of acres of their lands which they lost at one time. They encountered many difficulties in the course of this movement. Andhra-Orissa police foisted false case on our cadres. The liquor traders have further intensified their attacks on us. They resorted to atrocious act against Com.Kirma, an activist of our CMAS. They have burnt down the villages. We are carrying on our movement right in the midst of this kind of repression.

The statement made by a Central Committee member of CPI(Maoist) to the press, threatening to kill our comrades will bring joy to the exploiting forces in the Andhra-Orissa border region.

Com. Verma and Com.Bhaskar Rao, the leader of our Rythu Cooli Sangham faced the attacks from the Pettandars, false cases and went to jails in the course of their work in the last 15 years to build the adivasis movement in this area.

In the last 15 years, Com.Verma as the District Secretary of RCS (AP) has earned commendation among the adivasis people in the district as a spotless leader. The people of this region, particularly the adivasis people of this district know well that Com.Verma is an active worker right from the age of 16 years and had dedicated his life. Com.Monangi Bhasker Rao, himself is working as the cadre for the last 15 years and is dedicated to the adivasis movement.

We denounce the statement of CPI (MAOIST) to kill these two comrades. We appeal to the Maoists to think in a matured way who would benefit from their statement to kill the leaders of other revolutionary organizations at a time when the state is resorting to brutal repression against the people’s movement. We appeal to the democrats, intellectuals and all the people in the state to condemn this statement and this idea.
